The interlink between PCOS and Diabetes

PCOS is a period health problem, whereas diabetes is a condition when the sugar level of the blood increases. PCOS and diabetes are related, and increasing weight is associated with these health issues.

PCOS is mainly the result of an increase in weight, while other hormonal changes in the body are also responsible for causing this issue. It affects fertility and prevents a woman from achieving pregnancy in natural ways. PCSO affects pregnancy and is also related to heart health issues and other health problems.

There is a direct link between Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and diabetes which you will get to know here in this blog. Let’s dive in:-

Association of PCOS and Diabetes:-

PCOS is one of the factors that lead to diabetes in women, and the symptoms of PCOS appear before the symptoms of diabetes. Insulin resistance in the body causes the rise of PCOS, and it is still unclear how PCOS and diabetes are related to each other.

But the thing is that insulin resistance usually does not affect everyone similarly, and it may or may not affect women with pregnancy. According to experts, insulin resistance caused by obesity affects the function of the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, which causes hormonal imbalance leading to PCOS. Excessive production of hormones has a greater risk of female infertility and affects the function of the ovary.

The other possible causes are depression and anxiety, which increase the risk of PCOS and depression. The other ill effects of PCOS also include miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, and altering the growth of the embryo.

Symptoms:-

Let’s take a look at the symptoms of PCOS.

  • Weight Gain:- It is the most significant factor that causes insulin resistance or period issues in women. Increasing weight is due to the inclusion of more carbohydrates in the diet.

  • Irregular Period:-  The first sign of PCOS is irregular periods or no periods, and it affects the flow of blood during the period and often affects pregnancy.

  • Skin Problem:-  Often, the problem of the period is related to skin health issues, mainly acne and periods.

  • Ovarian Cyst:- PCOS problem leads to the occurrence of a sac-like structure known as an ovarian cyst which affects your menstrual cycle.

  • Hair Problem:- The effect PCOS also has on your hair causes the thinning of hair or even hair fall.

If you currently see specific symptoms, take the necessary steps soon.

Let’s take a closer look at the symptoms of diabetes:-

Symptoms of Diabetes:-

  • Frequent urination:-  Constant peeing, especially at night, is common when a person has a high glucose level in the blood.

  • Increase in Appetite:-  The appetite of an individual increase with an increase in sugar level. An increase in hunger becomes the cause of increasing weight which can give rise to even worse health issues like a heart attack.

  • Blurry vision:- An elevated sugar level tends to damage the eye's retina, causing blurry vision and other eye health issues.

  • Itchy Skin:- It results from less moisture in the body, and a dry mouth is also common in a diabetic patient.

Tests to take if you have such Symptoms of Diabetes:-

Blood sugar fasting is essential if you see such symptoms of diabetes. In the blood sugar fasting test, you are asked to fast before taking the test. Fasting is necessary when you are testing for sugar because food intake alters the sugar level in the blood. Hence, you must go for 8hrs of fasting before you take the test.

Are you dealing with PCOS lately?

Generally, the symptoms of PCOS are not apparent. A woman may find specific signs of skin problems like acne, pimples, or dark patches on some parts of the skin. These symptoms will make you visit a dermatologist, while you may visit a gynecologist if there are any period problems like irregular periods or heavy bleeding.  While these symptoms together become the cause of PCOS.  Did you know why PCOS leads to no periods or irregular periods? It is due to an ovarian cyst which causes a lack of ovulation, leading to irregular periods. The PCOS problem mainly develops at the age of 20 to 30, and a bad lifestyle is one of the factors of this issue.

If you also fall under such age and experience symptoms of PCOS, then you must consider a test. Know the PCOS test cost so you can go for the test at the earliest.

Also, remember that only an ovarian cyst does not necessarily mean PCOS. It varies from one woman to other. Some women have cysts, while others don’t. Excessive growth of hair on the body is a potential sign due to an increase in male hormones in the female’s body. Don’t take such symptoms lightly and get the test at the foremost.
